The doctors use special surgical instruments to very precisely remove teeth without causing damage to surrounding bone and gum tissue. The result is a smooth, quick and comfortable procedure.

Wisdom Tooth Extractions

Tooth Extractions & Wisdom TeethWisdom teeth are the final set of upper and lower molars that usually come in during your late teens or early twenties. Sometimes they come in correctly with enough room and don’t cause any problems, but many patients do have trouble with them and need to have them removed.

Wisdom teeth may come in at an angle, causing crowding. Sometimes a wisdom tooth may be impacted, which means it doesn’t break through the gum tissue or does not emerge all the way. Impacted and partially impacted wisdom teeth can cause health issues by trapping food and bacteria, which can open the door to tooth decay and gum disease.

Our doctors can do gentle, skillful extractions for many problem wisdom teeth. However, if the teeth are impacted, they will refer the patient to an oral surgeon.

Socket preservation

A tooth socket is the area in the jawbone occupied by a tooth. The doctors perform a technique called socket preservation to fill in the socket left by the extracted tooth. This is done after an extraction to prepare the site for a dental implant or to make it easier for you to get an implant in the future should you decide to have one placed.

First, the doctors take care to extract the tooth as gently as possible and without harming your surrounding teeth, jaw bone and gums. They thoroughly clean out any infection and remove the residual tissues from the extraction to prevent the spread of infection.

Bone grafting material is then placed in the socket and a collagen membrane is used to cover and protect the graft, then they close up the area with a suture. The bone grafting material then stimulates the growth of new bone tissue to fill in the empty tooth socket.
