At our Poway office, we offer one-visit crowns using the CEREC® system.

CEREC is an acronym for CEramic REConstruction. With the CEREC system’s CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/manufacturing) technology, the doctor can create custom porcelain crowns right in our office.

How CEREC® works

The CEREC machine allows the doctor to custom-design your crown and mill it out of a block of high-quality porcelain in our office. The CEREC procedure is an efficient procedure that eliminates the need for the usual “temporary restorations” that patients are required to wear while their final restorations are being created by an outside lab. With the CEREC machine, your final restorations are designed and milled right in the office while you wait, and there is no need for a second visit.

Fast and easy precision scanning

The procedure begins with creating a digital impression of your mouth using our CEREC Bluecam digital scanner. The scanner takes very precise images which are used to create a virtual 3D model of your teeth.

Custom-designing your crown

Next, the doctor designs your crown using special software on the CEREC system’s design unit. The crown’s shape and position are designed to match your natural teeth and to align properly for a comfortable bite.

Custom-milling your crown

The doctor will use our CEREC milling unit to custom-mill your crown out of a block of high-quality porcelain. The ceramic blocks come in 17 shades so the doctor can match your teeth color accurately. The end result is a crown that is natural-looking in its shape and color.

Adjusting for the perfect match

The doctor can make adjustments to your crown’s size, shape and color as needed right in the office. These modifications take place faster than they could when using an off-site lab.

• Biocompatible.  Our CEREC crowns are milled out of a single block of biocompatible porcelain, so there is no other material, including metal, inside of it.
