Justene Doan, DDS
Dr. Justene Doan teamed up with her husband, Dr. Roger Tran, to open A+ Family Dentistry in 2002. She enjoys dentistry because it allows her to pursue her three loves: science, art and helping people. Dr. Justene is a highly trained general dentist and mainly focuses on dental implants and restorative cases. Dr. Justene places a high value on communication in her dental care. She strives to get to know each one of her patients. She is a careful listener and takes the time to explain procedures very thoroughly.
Knowledgeable implant dentist
Dr. Justene is highly skilled in implant dentistry and has placed hundreds of implants. Her considerable postgraduate training includes a fellowship program and a year-long surgical externship in implantology. She keeps up-to-date on the latest techniques and procedures in implant dentistry through regular continuing education.
Education
Dr. Justene received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Southern California. She has completed several dental implant training programs, including a 12-month curriculum through Implant Seminars, a prestigious dental implant institute. She has also completed a fellowship program and a year-long surgical externship through the California Implant Institute. Other postgraduate education includes dental laser training, a two-year orthodontics curriculum through Progressive Orthodontic Seminars, and hands-on Core Workshops from the prestigious Spear Education institute.
Awards and honors
Dr. Justene, along with Dr. Janice, was selected as one of the 40 Top Dentists Under 40 in the U.S. for 2015 by Incisal Edge magazine. The 40 under 40 program recognizes innovative and passionate young dental professionals who are raising the standards of dentistry.
Community service
Dr. Justene recently volunteered through TeamSmile with the San Diego Chargers to provide a full day of free dental care to children, and she has also provided pro bono dental services to children in rural areas through mobile clinics. Dr. Justene also contributes to social betterment programs, including anti-drug and human rights campaigns.
Roger Tran, DDS
Dr. Roger Tran practices general, cosmetic and restorative dentistry. Like his wife, Dr. Justene, he is highly educated and experienced in implant dentistry and orthodontics. Dr. Tran’s lifelong passion for helping others led him into dentistry. His goal is to help patients keep their teeth for a lifetime. Dr. Tran is a good listener and takes the time to explain treatment plans to patients. Many patients who are prone to anxiety come to Dr. Tran for his gentle touch and ability to put patients at ease.
Education
Dr. Tran graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Southern California. Since graduating, he has received advanced training in many areas of dentistry, including dental implants, orthodontics, Invisalign, soft tissue laser surgery and sleep apnea. Dr. Tran is also very well-educated in implant dentistry. Like Dr. Justene, he has studied at such reputable institutes as Implant Seminars and the California Implant Institute. He has completed a surgical externship as well as a fellowship in dental implants from the California Implant Institute.
Community service
Dr. Tran has volunteered his services through the Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center. He has also provided free dentistry to needy children through the Children’s Dental Clinic in Inglewood and to underserved Southern California communities through the USC Mobile Clinic.
Janice Doan, DDS
Dr. Janice Doan practices general and cosmetic dentistry. Her goal is to give her patients a healthy smile that will last a lifetime. Dr. Janice is the sister of Dr. Justene Doan. Dr. Janice treats her patients as if they were her own family members. Using excellent communication skills, she explains dental procedures in a simple way so patients are fully informed about procedures and the results they should expect.
Education
Dr. Janice received her Doctor of Dental Science degree from the University of Southern California. Since graduating, she has completed a number of continuing education programs in a variety of subjects, including dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, endodontics (root canal treatment), Invisalign and laser dentistry. She has also completed a dental implant fellowship and a surgical externship through the California Implant Institute.

Dr. Janice, along with Dr. Justene, was named a “Top 40 Under 40” dentist by Incisal Edge magazine. This honor is given to outstanding dental professionals who are setting new benchmarks in their industry.

Dr. Janice places a high value on giving back to the community and provides pro bono dentistry through numerous volunteer programs, including:
- The USC Mobile Clinic, which delivers services and education to underserved communities in Southern California
- The USC Dental Clinic at Union Rescue Mission, a non-profit shelter for the homeless and indigent
- The USC Special Patients Clinic, which provides services to medically compromised, disabled and elderly patients
- The San Diego Give Kids a Smile Day program
- The Children’s Dental Clinic in Inglewood
- The Remote Area Medical mobile clinics, which provide medical care in underserved, isolated or impoverished communities
Dr. Sigafoos
Dr. Sigafoos has been serving San Diego County for over 20 years as a periodontist, a dental expert who specializes in treating diseases of the gum and other supporting and surrounding tissues of the teeth. To be certified in periodontics (from the Greek peri, meaning “around,” and odous, meaning “tooth”), a dentist must complete at least three years of additional training after graduating from dental school. Dr. Sigafoos handles our office’s advanced periodontal disease treatment. He is a self-described perfectionist. “I strive to get the highest level of control over gum disease as possible,” he says.
Educating patients
Dr. Sigafoos takes an educational approach to gum disease therapy. “When patients understand the effects of periodontal disease,” he says, “they can prevent it and maintain their oral health and overall health.” Like his colleagues, Dr. Sigafoos is a great communicator. He takes the time to clearly explain periodontal disease and treatment procedures. He uses uncomplicated language to ensure that patients easily understand every step of their treatment.
Education
Dr. Sigafoos earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree and also completed his postgraduate periodontics studies at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Lecturer and educator
Dr. Sigafoos has given many lectures and presentations on periodontal disease to various study groups, general dentists and hygienists. He has been invited by several local and national TV stations to share his expertise in interviews.

Dr. Mark Karpman
Dr. Karpman is an endodontist, a specialist in root canal therapy — the field of dentistry that treats the soft tissue inside the teeth known as the pulp. He takes care of our complex root canal treatment. The word “endodontist” comes from endo, meaning “inside,” and odont, which means “tooth.” Certification in endodontics requires an additional minimum two years of specialist training after dental school.
Expert, caring treatment
Dr. Karpman is highly trained and experienced. He has been practicing dentistry for over thirty years, and throughout his career, he has continued to stay on top of his field by completing extensive continuing education studies. Dr. Karpman uses state-of-the-art technology, including a dental microscope, for precise, successful and comfortable root canal treatment. In addition to being highly knowledgeable and skilled in his specialty, Dr. Karpman is also a very caring dentist. He treats his patients the way he himself would like to be treated.
Education
Dr. Karpman received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the NYU College of Dentistry. He followed this with a General Practice Dental Residency at the Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center. He went on to complete a fellowship in Endodontics at the St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Medical Center. Dr. Karpman has completed substantial continuing education studies. He is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, a prestigious designation awarded to dentists who have completed 500 hours of continuing education and have passed the rigorous fellowship examination.
